Another Osprey from ILE, this one created following my afternoon walk today. Canon 400mm f/4 S DO lens (handheld) with the EOS-50D. ISO 800. Evaluative metering off grey sky +2 1/3 stops: 1/2500 sec. at f/4. Full frame. AI Servo AF with central sensor only. This bird was returning to the platform nest. Wind and what little light there was were both from the SW. Rare but ideal conditions....

I hope I can work with these birds for more than one afternoon someday, meantime I can only thank you for that exciting day I spent there at the ILE photogrpahing these and other wonderfull birds!

Love the pose and the look, and to think that people say the 50D is too noisy at 800. This one would say otherwise.

Sweet pose Artie and even got some blue sky with the exp comp !! Darker areas look excellent and noise free !! I think the under exposure is the biggest factor in noise ... just a third will do it !!! Big Congrats !!

Got to love the "heraldic" pose.
The mastery of light conditions in
cases like this is what separates the ....

Agree Terry. And this one was processed with zero NR. As Alfred and I have stated, noise if reduced if you push the EXP to the right as far as possible. There were flashing highlights in the sky here that were recovered via the Recovery slider in ACR.

Alfred, what is the name of the NR program that you love for the 50D? Please include a link if you have it.

Quite the dynamic pose with the Osprey flying slightly to our right but looking left. I also like the faint marbling of blue sky and white clouds. Another winner :-)

Terrific pose Artie! Enough exposure control to preserve some detail in the sky, which really adds to the image.

Superb wing spread and the detail is spectacular. There is no noise. So good to see a mid-range camera doing such fabulous job. :)
