Is this a copper's hawk? Taken at Viera wetland 6 weeks ago.

Nope, it is Red-shouldered Hawk.
Note the color of the wings especially the shoulders (hence the name)
Cooper has them all blue-gray. Also pay attention to color of eye and head pattern.

Thanks for the info. I have a hard time with some birds. I thought coopers because it did not look like this red-shouldered I took a day earlier.

Your second picture actually looks more like a Broad-winged hawk to me - especially with that type of barring on the underparts. Red-shouldereds tend to have more rusty underparts with a strait barring pattern and darker brown - almost black - barring on the wings. Also the mustache on the second bird is consistent with the Broad-winged.

However, not having seen the Broad-winged in person, I'm just going off my Peterson's. :)
(Nice shot, by the way!)

Yup, agree with the above.Look at the white barring on the wings and overall lack
of features. It is quite non-descript "generic" Buteo juv.

Your first picture is a fairly extreme example of the distinct coloring of the Florida Red-shouldered Hawk - much lighter than what you'll find in the rest of the country.

Nice shots, in both cases!
