Techs:
Canon 40D
Canon 400 MM 5.6 L
1/1600
f/5.6
ISO = 320
EV = 0
Art's sandbag (BLUBB)
Morning light
Al Servo

Workflow:
CR2----->LRII (15% crop, slight exposure, sat & curves adjustments)---TIFF-->NN (one pass - 80% color, brush off from subject)---TIFF> CS4 (selective sharpen eye & body - then smart sharpen image 25%)---web save---JPEG--->BPN

Not sure about EV. Went back and checked my APB & APBII notes. "darker than a midtone = 0". This applies to cloudy days with Eval metering. Hence, I think it was correct?

Very nice details, eye. Good composition in the frame.
Good looking bird;) Do you sharpen before re-sizing for
posting or after? I think you need to over-sharpen if
you do it before.

Cheers, Ilija

Hey Jeff, This is a wonderful image by any standard. Love the image design, the head angle, the sharpness, and the killer complementary BKGR. I would darken the pupil with a QM and then try boosting the contrast (on the whole image) just a bit. All in all, very well done.

hi Jeff - You have a good head angle and eye contact. Nice details in the blacks.

Looks quite flat to me - I increased the contrast a bit to give it a bit more POP. Also sharpened the eye just a tad . Would maybe be worth also smoothing out the BG a bit (Didn't do it)

Hi Jeff

Agree with comments and could suggest to go a little tighter, glad your going after those beauties, they do make compelling images !!!

Something between the original post and Lance's repost might be killer.
