Captured on the south coast of NSW, while taking our dogs for a day trip to a beach for a run. There was a small group of these wonderful seabirds and as we approached slowly, they flew to a safer location. I was up on the sloping sand shooting down at the bird as it flew to the north. The background is a shallow, water covered sandbar.

Full frame, added 300 pixels to the bottom. I know a slightly better head turn would have been nicer, but it would not listen. :D

30D, 300/4L IS and 1.4x, handheld.

You are correct about the head angle :-)

Good eye-level angle. I would have preferred a straight up or down wing position, but seeing that this is full-frame that would have resulted in clipped feathers.

I am impressed about the BIF image you took with the 30D. I have the 20D and I need to be lucky to get sharp images...it just keeps tracking with my 500mm f:4. Thanks for posting.

The bird looks good against that nice BG. As you said, a slight head turn would have been nice. Speaking of the head, I think it would benefit from some additional sharpening.

Nice low angle Akos. Head looks fine to me and it stands out well from the wing behind it.
