Late afternoon light and the sun coming in from the back made this image a challenge. I worked with both a vertical and horizontal crop, eventually settling on the horizontal as the perch is very massive and busy below the crop and dwarfs the bird when cropped vertically..

Nice Bonnie... I think you chose the right crop considering the perch as you mentioned. I love the lazy look of these guys... hope to see more!

Great pose and comp with great bg. Pity for me that the light is not from his front side but from the back side. But you have exposed it super to make up for it well done

You did well with what you were up against, I think the crop is very good and I like the perch the way it is, it would have been nice if he could have looked at you head on.

This is a wonderful image Bonnie! Great job of seperating the bird from the background that this bird is meant to blend in with.

Hi Bonnie,
Another nice shot of the short ear. As mentioned, the light was not ideal but the detail is still there and I do like the background and perch. Some of our owls here in Nanaimo have started the spring molt and look a bit ragged. Funny how they are hanging in late this year ours are usually gone by mid February.

Take care,

Steve
