I was "playing" around with my favorite mallard shot and when cropping, found it had a black background that gave it a sort of painting look. I had to place it one a larger black canvas to keep the crop from being too close. then blended them. some minor sharpening in places and had to clone out some dust specks.

Hazel, Really good photoshop skills! The black BG really adds some drama- I think the composition would be stronger if the duck were to the left more. Nice effect you've created here!!Keep up the good work

Hazel, what a great angle on this image! Rarely do we get to see a bird from this viewpoint.

I like your painted technique very much...the only place I would consider masking it off is around the eye. I think it would give the viewer that visual punch to stop and make eye contact.

Love the black BG on this!
