Found this tiny chap (hardly 1 cm in length) in the balcony of my house. It was fairly stable over it's hive - so I could take a few close up shots. This was taken at approximately 3.5x magnification - by Canon MP-E 65mm F/2.8 macro lens. At this magnification, the depth of field becomes too shallow - I thought doing some experiment on the DoF; so I had set the aperture value at F/5.6 to see it's effect. Quite evident from the shot - the DoF was not even a couple of mm in width!
I have added the vignetting effect just to add some drama.

Hey Santanu, very cool close-up, like the abstact DOF and good angle on the head.

Santanu, I not quite sure what it is but you captured it beautifully, I like the vignetting-The DOF reminds me of a lensbaby image-I like the antennae on the diagonal. Is it a wasp?

Thanks Mike and Denise!

@ Denise: This is a wasp.

Santanu, this is really fun! I love the vignette - it makes the viewer feel like he's observing the critter right inside it's hive. Excellent head turn (gives it a lot of interest!) and nicely exposed. A touch more DOF and you might have gotten the right eye to be as sharp as the left but it's very nice as presented.

Love the BG blur of this image and the colour. Especially like the OOF legs each side of the head. I would have cropped with the head slightly more to the right.

Super image.

I really like the shallow depth of field, it really adds some drama to the image.

Well composed, I like the depth of field and the intricate sharp details in the head...congrats...

Very cool portrait.

Great detail, nice light and the vignetting is working well.
