This is another image of a snow bunting that I found in a local field. The snow is pretty much gone and so are the buntings. I guess I will have to wait until next winter.

Axel:

Sharp, beautiful control of exposure, nice head angle, great feet.

The light must have been quite soft, although the shadows shows it was off your left shoulder, the bird itself is beautifully illuminated. I am sure reflection off the snow acted as fill!

Thanks

Randy

Axel, you'll have to divulge your secret on how you are able to get close to these guys.

Yet another beautiful close-up of a species I can't get nearly close enough to photograph properly. Well done Axel!

Art, I picked a spot that the buntings, larks and longspurs frequented often because of food supply, sat down, didn't move and let them get used to me. Particularly the longspurs are very skittish and sometimes take off when they hear the shutter. I noticed that this was less of an issue on windy days. The downside is that sitting on ice on a windy day is not exactly very pleasant after a few hours.

Hi Axel. Maybe it would help if you pretended you were ice-fishing. :) But seriously - another excellent photo with a good pose and head angle, sharp, good exposure, and clean background. Well done.

Great shot Axel - even without factoring in how difficult it is to get close to these guys. Great detail and exposure!
