Here's a cool behavior shot I got of a pair of Northern Hawk Owls this summer in Alaska. I was lucky enough to have this nest about 600-700m away from where I was camped while doing a Rusty Blackbird study, so I got to spend a lot of time watching these guys in their breeding grounds. The female would sit in her nest and call for the male until he finally brought her a vole from his cache in a nearby tree, then they would exchange the vole while giving each other this look.

What a treat to see this species breeding Nathanial! The female looks squished in the cavity. I guess they like it that way. Does the male incubate at all?

From what I've heard, the males don't incubate. They spend all their time hunting and bringing food back for the female and chicks.
