Nikon has a wireless system that allows you to screw an adapter onto the lens' filter threads.
I used 3 SB-R200 flash heads (they are small) that mount to the adapter. The SB-R200s are controlled wirelessly in camera with the D300 and other Nikon bodies.

The ant is tack sharp and OOF areas and colors give this a wonderful abstract look.
