From my recent Utah trip, here's a photo of a relatively close encounter with a female Northern Harrier.

Looks awesome Doug... still amazed at your handheld technique with the 600, and the incredible results. Great detail! Do you deal with any noise on the sky in an image like this, or is the MIII clean at iso800?

Magnifica Doug!

What a lovely looking raptor. You did great with that light, sharpness and compo.
The only thing that bothers me is the dark halo on the base of the wing right behind the nape. Overall a great image.

Hi Bill. I metered off of some light brown dead plants, and I didn't add or subtract exposure.

I run NR on the BG of all of my images John. But noise is minimal and details well preserved at ISO 800 on the Mark III.

Nice capture of this lovely bird, good eye contact and composition. The dark halo mentioned by Juan Carlos is a bit of a distraction but an easy fix. Well done.

Not sure how I missed that dark area. Here's a fixed version. Thanks for picking up on that Juan.

Love the eyecontact! Great that you were able to fix that halo, as it was a bit distracting....
