The scrub jays have always been such a pretty bird to photograph but not always easy to get out in the open with a clean composition.

I like the perch, pose, details and BG. The light looks a bit harsh, maybe you can get more details in the shadows.

Very nice Judy, like the pose, perch and detail, but find the needles above the head a little distracting

I can relate to "not always easy to get out in the open with clean composition" being here in the tropics. Lighting is a bit harsh like the rest have commented but it does give you the catch light in the eye plus the sheen on the feathers which to me brings out the life in the bird. I have no bother either with the leaves on the top right as these give an idea of the environment the bird thrives in.

Nice comp and detail Judy... I don't mind the needles so much, but might try cloning the two shadows on the bird if it were mine.

As stated, light seems a bit harsh but still a fine image with nice color and detail. They don't always do what we would like them to!!!!

A thing of beauty, the needles add a reality touch ;)

I think you handled the light very well. Love the sharpness and the BG. I might remove the shadows of the pine needles on the bird.

Judy,

Beautiful bird and nice composition. I agree with Doug about removing the pine needle shadows from the bird's back.

A very pleasing image, Judy. I think the pine needles really balance the compostion. Great background. I want to see one of these Jays!! I've got to get down your way.
