Hi William, I am sure you are happy with this image. Creating image of the fast flying kingfisher with a catch in its bill is a dream of most bird photographers. My learning take )for myself) from your image are the following:
shutter speed needs to be faster than 1/1500 to stop the motion and make the bird sharp even if it means raising the ISO to 640 or 800. I too have always shyed away from using a high ISO but modern digital SLR can handle them with fairly less noticeable noise. If you had space in the image, I would keep a little more in front of the bird and remove a bit from the right of the image.
Well done!

Congratulations William on achieving this image it was well worth the wait and you should be happy with yourself;

I like the little splashes of water too

Nice capture William. I would love to have caught this bird in flight. I have tried many times without success. I congratulate you. I agree that the bird should be further to the right, but without losing the water droplets.

I'd be happy with this one, too! I, also, have tried in vain for a nice kingfisher in-flight image. I agree with the other comments.

Getting an image of a kingfisher in flight is always a reason to be happy. :) I would put him a bit further right in the frame.

Great effort William - lots of impact. Agree with comments about faster shutter speed and composition. With this plain BG it would be a simple matter to add more canvas in front of boird and crop a little off the left to prevent subject appearing in centre.
