This Atlantic Calico Scallop was stranded on the beach at low tide on Sanibel Island. Its rudimentary eyes are positioned on the outer lip of its shell. These scallops become a popular food for gulls and shorebirds on the beach. I removed some small bits of shells and other beach debris (note to Julie: this is not "crap" :) ), but chose to leave in what you see here. Other opinions are welcome. I like the bit of reflection in the wet sand in the LLC. 20D, 90mm tilt/shift, 1/45, f/16, ISO 100.

Very nice composition.

The shadow throws me. Could it be selectively lightened?

I like the combination of colors.

Thanks for sharing.

Did I say crap? I'm sorry. Maybe I was having a crappy day. I'll try not to say crap any more. :D:eek::D

This is lovely, Steve. I don't think I've ever seen a scallop this close up that wasn't on my plate. I actually like the shadows - and the quality and details of the sand and shell are amazing.

Steve, I really like this image with the singular exception of that shadow. The light must have been pretty low to cast that large of a shadow and it just looks out of proportion to my eye.
