Ailuroedus crassirostris

Taken in the Matcham Valley, NSW.

The Green Catbird is found in Rainforests and its margins. It gets its name because it yowls like cat.

Nikon D300, Nikkor 500mm f/4 VR, f/6.3, 1/250, ISO 800, -0.67 EBV. Flash -2.0. Full Frame. Cloned the perch from behind the bird's head.

Gorgeous shot Gerard, I like the green on green here and great detail in the catbird.

I think I might have already seen this shot and commented on it elsewhere.

One of the things that first struck me about this shot is the sharpness from beak to tail. Well done for paralleling your subject so carefully.

When I first heard the call of this bird I could not stop laughing. This species has one of the most ridiculous calls in the entire bird world.

PS. My new 500mm f/4 VR is turning out to be a bit of a nightmare. In combination with my TC14-E and D300 it front focuses really badly. The combination is totally unusable. No amount of AF fine tuning fixes the problem. I've taken all of the components to the Nikon repair centre in Melbourne, but they did nothing to fix the problem.

Lovely details in this image. The feathers are gorgeous.
Thanks for sharing it with us. Not a commonly seen bird at BPN.
