I leave tomorrow morning for a week of raptor photography up in Utah. Here's a final image from my trip there last winter. I can only hope that this year is as good as last year.

Lucky you, sounds like fun. I like the details and wing position in this one.

Now that is one terrific shot, not easy and with superb light and pose, BG and detail are amazing as well as color and comp. Big congratulations and best of luck!

I think ths is quite a sensational shot....nothing much to even nit-pick with. The bird looks like a fine specimen too.

Awesome side shot, I like that you can still see it's right wing even in the down stroke. Also being able to see it's feet in the back is really cool

Pretty darn great image Doug. I like the "hunched" pose.

Best luck with your trip Doug and bring back home many sweet images like this one. I am really envious for this image because it is almost impossible to see a barn owl flying in daylight in Spain. Sweet Bg, fantastic wing pose, perfect light... I like it a lot

Great colour palette. I love all of the yellows against the blue. Good luck on your upcoming trip.

Love the pose, EXP, and sharpness but I am betting that you would rather the horizon line be elsewhere....

Will you be with Jim N.?

Great image....sharpness, exposure, wing position, great detail on the fine feathers on the forehead.

Typically, I'd agree with Artie relative to the horizon line but I think that this image is stong enough that it really isn't an issue to me at least.

Jim is going with me Artie. Although the horizon line isn't ideal, it's a pretty soft line; a sharp demarcation would've detracted more than this one IMO.

See Doug's response below. I am not trying to bust _ _ _ _ _ with my comments. It is rare that an image could not have been improved pre- or post-.

My "Fire in the Mist" which was honored in a BBC Wildlife Competition of the Year Competition and is featured on the cover of "Light on the Earth" is a perfect example. I have lots of problems with that image and if you can find my 5000th post, you would see that I pretty much view it as a great failure....

Hey Doug, Don't get me wrong. This is an exceptional image and I wish it were mine. Even one 1/2 as good.
