I found this Loggerhead at Viera the other day feeding on a Grasshopper, I wish the barbwire was rusted out but other then that was happy to get this one.

40D, 500 f/4 IS + 1.4TC, 1/500 at f/7.1, Aperture Priority, Evaluative Metered, ISO 400, Raw, Tripod, Cropped form horizontal, cloned out part of the sky at the top of the frame ( would have adjusted the angle on the subject in the field to eliminate the sky if I was taller:))

Nice DOF, exposure, and sharpness. Classic Shrike behavior. I would go with a horizontal crop here. Regarding the fence, I think Nik makes a rusty fence plug-in. ;)

I agree wit landscape format. Beautiful image, the bird is sharp and well exposed. You could burn the insect and the wire by 1/3 EV . The bird will stant out even more.

Another vote for horizontal cropping. Love the wonderful detail and excellent exposure is this capture Don and also the nice clean BG. Congratulations on a fine capture of the shrike.

Nice image. One of my favorite poses. The landscape re-post is an improvement. Dodge and burn on the insect would add to image.

Good behavior captured. I like the details, eye contact and BG, I'm not too crazy about the barbed wire but there is not much you could do about it. I like the composition of Juan's repost.

It would seem my first inclination for a Vertical comp has been overruled
lucky for me I shot these as horizontals to begin with:)
I left the sky in on this version and also toned down the wire.
