I've been doing a lot of sorting/filing/purging the past couple weeks, which can be fun in that it's a chance to revisit images from years past and find others that I've forgotten about... this is one of them. I captured this image a couple summers back in '07 under overcast skies in Yellowstone.

Nice work John. Always fun to find those that you forgot about in the archives. I like the color shifts in the grass producing a subtle layering affect.

The bull looks great. Though I like it as is, you could try opening up the shadows a bit on the head.

I like the upraised head and the texture in the grass. Recently, I have also been reworking old images. It is fun to see how skills developed since the original processing combined with new software can make an image entirely different.

John,
I have been looking at this image several times, to think whether a different placement will work. However, I think this is fine. I notice the different colours creating layers and increasing depth in the image. The angle of the antlers is nice.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi

I like this image. The BG has enough detail to tell the viewer some about the elk's habitat without distracting from the real subject. Taking him out of the center and roughly to one of the "thirds" positions adds some strength to the compositon. Finally, you have captured some nice action here. The head thrown back and the open mouth are a big plus and add some energy to your photo. Well done.

Hi John,
I like the comp as is. The unbalanced "Z" formed by his antlers, neck, and body fit nicely in the alternating layers of grassy BG.
