A snowy owl, an orange sunset, and some good friends (not pictured here!) ... what a way to end my first day of photography in 2009.

This is terrific, I even like the orange reflected in the plumage. Wish I was there too :)

Nice composition, btw.

I don't know what I like more....the owl, the look over the shoulder, or that incredible BG color. Oh how I wish I were there.....you're all having way too much fun.

Grace it looks like you're all making the very best of your winter visitor. I love the BG colours and the sunlight on the bird as well. The only thing that would bump this up even more would be to have both eyes on you.

Stunning and great angle, bg really sets if off. Face exposure seems to be getting a little hot though.

Grace,

This masterpiece is my favorite of the group shoot and ranks right up there with the well-known classic by Chas. I am not sure why, but for me, this emotional but relaxed image is far more pleasing than the in-your-face baited flight shots. It's not even that I am anti-baiting. I guess I sense the human action that got the owl to fly and it ruins the magic for me. This image has magic!
