This little guy was lurking around at the top of Sandia Crest (elev. 10,600 feet) a couple of weeks ago. The conditions were rough, and he wouldn't sit still for more than a couple of seconds. He did however strike this classic nuthatch pose long enough for me to get a frame.

Canon 1D Mark III, 600mm, f/7.1, 1/1600, ISO 400, no flash, tripod

Hi Doug!
Sweet pose and I love the bg colour. I also love the detail in the tree bark and the bird's leg as a foil to the softness (I don't mean OOF!) of the feathers...

As you stated, classic pose and well captured. Nice comp, exposure and details. Love the bg. A few inches lower and the tail would not have been shadowed but they just don't like to co-operate always:D.

Love it Doug, classic pose to the hilt, bg and detail excellent, super colours, love the seed in the beak, your comp is great.

Good point Todd. The saving grace in this image is that there is no strong shadow line on the bird.
