An introduced male Chaffinch photographed on the South Island, New Zealand.
Canon 40D, EF70-200 f/4 IS @ 200mm, handheld, ISO400, f/11, 1/100, full frame, a couple of bread specks removed from bill.

Nice bird, Simon, a bit tight on the left. I'd have used a larger aperture in favor of more shutter speed.

Nice and sharp and a great head angle and of course the soft light is really great. A 70-200, this was one tame bird!
I only with the perch was natural.

Perfect illustration of htis bird. As mentioned, a natural perch would have been nice.

A very common finch in my country, what was the reason for it being introduced? was it in decline and needed help or is it a new species for New Zealand....
A natural perch would have been better but the colours and sharpness look superb.....
Nice work.

Absolutely fabulous Simon. Superb sharpness, lighting and colour. I like the subtly cocked head and the comp too.
The Chaffinch used to be considered the commonest songbird in Britain. Not sure if this is still the case.
