Canon Digital Rebel XT, Sigma 150 2.8, ISO 400, 1/100, F5.6. Used a monopod. Taken as sun was setting, light was becoming a challenge.

Caught this damselfly straight from the front as it was parked on a tall thin grass weed. I was surprised at how the eyes protruded, and made the shot look a bit comical. Though technically not the best shot in world, the composition I thought made up for the rest.

Hey Art, it is a very cool comp. I would have liked to seen just a tad more focus on the stem, when you shoot images like this try brackening f/stops including a f/4, 5.6, f/8 along with the 2.8 you shot, that way when you get home you have some options on the DOF

Same here. Very cool composition - you didn't try to go with the usual side view and I give you a big high five for that but...still would have liked a little more DOF on those two eyes. If they had been sharp as a tack I would have been blown away by this image. Even as is, it's fun to look at and I'm glad you shared it!

Thanks Julie, I remember that light was falling fast and a higher Fstop would have been harder to stay steady with even on a monopod. I remember trying to focus manually and trying to stay still but the dof was so narrow that I was lucky to get this shot.

I love the comp on this shot, and agree with a little more sharpness on the branch. Really like the oof tail.

Art, This doesn't work for me-It needs more focus on the stem and the eyes-however the composition is good
