I have been plagued with image-washout when I Save for Web and Devices (SFWD) in Ps. They come up washed out even in the image preview in SFWD. I tried setting the Proof setup to Macintosh RGB but that suggested fix never worked for me. Then I found this article:

http://www.gballard.net/psd/saveforwebshift.html (look at his home page- seems like an interesting lad!)

Down the page there is a suggestion to reset gamma on the Mac monitor to 2.2 from 1.8, which I did. Now I do not get the washout effect. I like simple fixes like this.

I think I will also start using Adobe RGB for workflow. I think this may produce a better match between what I see before posting to BPN, and what others see.

Thanks, John! This might be a problem many people have. I use Adobe RGB in camera and during processing and change the profile only after resizing and sharpening as last step. If you calibrate your monitor it most likely will suggest 2.2 for gamma.

I use roughly the same workflow as Axel and I don't have any problems with washout using SFWD in CS4.

that should be good John, but be sure to convert images to sRGB that are intended for web display
