This is my favorite sparrow species even when in somewhat duller winter plummage. They breed in north-central Canada and winter primarily in just a few states in the center of the continent. I flew home (Kansas) for Christmas with my 500mm lens and had one opportunity after a snowstorm to make a few bird images. I was quite pleased to get a few views of this species that morning . The feet are hidden, but take a look at the plumage! :-)

The bird really does have some neat plumage, the snow is a plus and the buried feet don't bother me. Nice image Judd!

The plumage is quite different from what I remeber . Great capture and excellent detail Judd and I love the contrasts against the snow and his pose. Nice work !

Happy Nw Year Judd !!!

Perfect works for me. Plus a great job of dealing with the rather harsh light.

Very nice sparrow indeed. Nice job on this image. The expo control is cool as not an easy shot.

Exposure is bang on, Judd. I haven't had the pleasure of seeing one of these guys yet.
