I use 500mm IS +1.4x with canon 40D,the KF too close to me ,I don't crop the pic,
enjoy!!!!

I'm speechless! Too close and Kingfisher just don't compute in my brain:D

Really neat colors and the bird and the head and beak look pretty sharp, I think I miss the one wing,maybe a bit too close?

Yes ,that really close to me, so I finish that shot, I remove the 1.4X immediately, So I get more space ,

The second one is a great image. I would take off the shadowed frame, this will give a little more space at the bottom,

I really love the top image. Clipping wings sometimes works very well, and in this situation it really provides an intimidate closeup where we can study the colors and bill of this beautiful bird. Were these taken handheld? The main reason that I ask is that they softer that would be expected with that lens/shutter combination if you were on a steady tripod...it's also possible that your downsizing for web created that effect. Nice work!
