Greetings,
This is my first post here. I am relatively new to photography and am anxious to learn and become better.

I ran across a few Hooded Mergansers on two small ponds. There was a road that seperated the ponds and were connected by a culvert. I concealed myself in a ground blind and waited fro the birds to swim past.

The day I took this, it was very, very dark/overcast.

Canon 40D. Canon 400mm (f/5.6) @f/8. ISO 800. 1/250sec. Exp Com +2/3 Handheld. Slight crop.

Welcome to the forum!
This is got to be one of the best exposed images of this species I have seen. Just great.
My only cc is a bit different crop and some clockwise rotation might strengthen it. Love the details you have captured.

Very nice and sharp.Good job on the exposure. The only nit that crosses my mind would be the drab water color due to the probable overcast sky and also the bright hilights on the water .All in all ,I would be happy to have this

Wow I really like this one!! What a comical hair-do!!! I have never this species before. A great capture, nice and sharp and I love the mercurial appearence in the water. The overcast sky has worked in your favour here eliminating any harsh shadows.Very well seen and taken.

I love the water, the soft look and the artistic impression it applies to the image. I would like to see the hoody moved slightly up. Great Image.
