This image was created this afternoon. Shooting from a blind I've set up two flash units. Both are on light stands, one is attached to the camera with a cord and the other is slaved. The slaved flash is inside the bushes to light the back ground. Mini feeder was removed in PS

Nikon D300
200-400 Vr f4 lens
ISO 200 1/60 f9
SB 800 and SB 80 flash units

This one is lovely. All that is left for you to do is find a smaller, sweeter perch. Great sharpness, colors, and BKGR>

Hey Rod - This one's a lot better! I'm with Artie on the perch though. Gotta get yourself some nice posing sticks! This is the pose that really works on these fellows IMO. Let me know when you have your blind set up down there. Ill bring the snacks :-)

Yep, the perch really needs to be replaced! The bunting looks spectacular, excellent pose. Although this image is tack sharp, I would raise the ISO to give you more shutter speed - just to put chances more on your side :-)

I tryed a smaller branch, but the buntings are sharing that branch and mini feeder with 6 squirrals that like the seed as well.
