View Full Version : Herring Gull (snowy flight)

I was a little disappointed when I woke up and the skies were dark and it appeared I wouldn't be shooting. Then the clouds gave way to snow and it got slightly lighter out so I decided to head to where I knew birds were flying to see if I could come away with some keepers. Here is the first from Sundays outing.
Note: I am no Gull expert, so correct me if I am wrong in assuming this is a winter plummage Herring Gull)

Living in New Mexico, I'm no gull expert. But I like the eye contact and the snowflakes in this photo. I'm not as crazy about the horizontal wing position, although the lighting is such that you do get nice underwing detail. Thanks for posting!

Wing position doesn't bother me on this, Mike. Love the snowy BG - I've never seen a gull in this situation myself. I would move the bird a little higher in the frame.

You have exposed the gull very well Mike, and love the colour in the BG, together with the fallinf snow. Have to agree with tony on moving the gull up, but still a brilliant image, and well done.

Well done Mike...I like the capture ...the redish brown hues in the background in combination with the falling snow is a big plus. You have a nice sharp eye and fantastic detail in the underwing...congrats...:cool:

Very striking image. I love the heavy snow against the brown bg, and the wing position works fine IMO. Head angle is good and nice sharp detail. I like this a lot!

very well done Mike, I might crop it a little different, but the image really has a lot of impact with all the snow.

I agree about the crop, great eye guys. I overlooked that in PP.
