Since the owls thus far this year are landing mainly on fence posts, I'm not able to post anything in this forum. :(

Here's a favorite from last season on a natural perch. handheld 500mm f4 IS , no flash, sunset

Great light, perch, and bird. A SQ crop might be considered. I love those big yellow eyes...

Great find, pose and eye contact, I also like the composition.

I like the pose and I like the eye contact. If it were mine I would be tempted to remove the pine tree going through its tail.

I think the image has way too much room at the top. A third of the image is blank sky.

I cant believe how his perch is holding him up. Stunning light, and loovely eye contact. Well captured Jeff.

Lovely colours and eye contact. I agree a square crop removing from the top would strengthen the composition. I would be tempted to brighten the shaded eye a little.

Superb perch, light and eye contact with a great head turn. I agree about the composition and I think that a square format will work finely on thi simage.

The repost is far more powerful. And I still love that perch! Where was the image made?

ps: Hard to believe that that tiny pine bough could support the bird.

This image was from last winter-in the northern Mohawk valley of NY State, near Little Falls. Although photographing snowys right now, I posted this prior year image out of my frustration of not having owls land on nice perches this year. In the area of Washington County, Ny where they are this year, tall utility poles and house roofs are the perches. Someone suggested that I set out a natural perch but it is all private land and I doubt I can compete with a utlity pole.

Flight shots are not probable or possible via baiting- a huge birding contingent and residents living there would have a major issue.
