My Florida trip in spring 09 to visit family there has to be in the Jackonsonville area instead of the usual SE Florida. I have never been to this part of the state and outside of the St. Augustine Farm, know of no sites. My bird species preference is not wading birds exept for the least bittern. I have to go in March-April which will be probably too early for shorebird or songbird migration. So not sure what to plan unless there are good raptor locations. I am willing to drive up to 1.5 hours one way from the airport area as day trips. Thanks.

I've never been up there either, but one place that comes to mind is a National Park Service unit called Timucuan. You can learn more here to see if it fits your interests: http://www.nps.gov/timu/

Also, consider the wonderful Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in southern Georgia. That place is full of great animals, although I'm more familiar with it during the summer when its great for canoeing.

actually little talbot and big state parks are a great location for osprey and migrants;; another good location is Fort Clinch State Park. Both are in the AMelia Island area just north of Jax

Hello Jeff, I live in Atlantic Beach (JAX) in the winter and will probably still be here. I can take you to some great spots so contact me a couple of weeks in advance.
