I photographed this orchid towards the end of last year at a local flora and fauna reserve in Melbourne. It's a rare orchid in the Melbourne region with some 120 orchids remaining due to habitat loss. This one was found amongst grass so it was difficult to get a balance between DOF and a busy background. Cropped slightly.

A lovely flower for sure. I wouldn't mind the OOF BG flower if it wasn't intersecting the subject. A little repositioning of the camera would solve that. A few distracting BG elements maybe opening up a bit more would soften them more. Just be carefull with being parallel with your subject and you could get away with it...

Hey Nicole, very nice comp, and I agree with the others that the BG is a little cuttered and maybe an f/8 would have soften it a little more.

Thanks for the feedback. I've got plenty of time before they flower again to practice.
