D300 200-400 @ 400 on tripod; ISO 800 f8 1/250 sec.

Cropped some empty space on the left for composition purpose.

I read on popphoto.com a photographer likes to shoot portraits with a blown-out white background...Is it really that originaI? I mean, take a look at the passport photos ;)...anyway, I thought I'd try it out. Originally it's water in the background and it looks kind of grayish.

Perhaps I wasn't that far away from the pintail really so it appears that the depth of field is not that deep even with f8.

C&C welcome!

Wonderful detail on the head, colors are very nice and the white BG is interesting. Beak/head turned a bit more towards you would have brought the tip in focus?
I quite like this Desmond and pea green with envy you got so close to a Pintail!

a look back over the shoulder would have made this one a BIG winner! but i do like the far away stare too. the details are sweet and i like the high key bg with this bird. it fits nicely with the colors.

just the tiny head angle but one fine image !!! Excellent detail and great feel !!! btw with high key images you can make a very thin border around the image for reference !! I like it a lot !!!

Agree with Nonda on this image, Desmond - the oof bill is noticeable, but not a huge problem for me. Love the rich brown in the head:)

Cheers,

Bruce
