I just looked at Robert Amoruso's harrier, and I had to chuckle. Like him, this is my first decent harrier photo from Bosque del Apache, even though I've seen tons of them over the years.

These Harriers have lovely plumage. This looks like a painting to me - the feather texture along the low belly even look like brush strokes :). I like how the shadow on the far wing makes the line of the neck and nape stand out.

700mm hand held; nice job, the shutter speed was smart choice. Good detail and resolution. IMHO, I might have done just a little selective sharpening in the face area ;-) Great shot.

Nice going Doug. I have only been out once with the 50D for BIF, but it did real well and I have not been shooting BIF for a while so I am kind of rusty.

Very decent job for a handheld exposure with a 700mm focal lens Doug;)
I like a lot the detailed textures of the plumage and the wing pose.

I actually did some selective sharpening of the face. In my experience, harriers have plumage on the face that doesn't sharpen up all that well.

Doug, Beautiful bird and beautiful capture. I see now where the idea of digital camo patterns came from.

Outstanding detail captured here Doug, and overall, the Harrier is pin sharp. Great image.

Exccellent pose and detail, exposure and comp are very nice, some noise reduction on the bird IMO would help this shot, still, as presented I love it! Congratualtons!

I'm beginning to think you lost your tripod. Another great shot, handheld. Nice detail and eye contact.
