This GB came to our campsite at Ft DeSoto two days in a row, 10/29 and 10/30/08. I have never seen one with this coloration before. I have seen a number of Wurdemann's Heron but none even close to this one. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks, Judy Hogan

Hi Judy- It would be easier to assess your bird if you enlarged the image to BPN limits- 800 pixels high in your case.

That's all that I can think of too...I think it's an Great Blue showing partial leucism. An interesting bird for sure!

Never heard of leucistic before so I Googled it. It does seem to be what this GB is. Does this happen very often? or is it rare? I told the Rangers at the park and I could tell they thought I was imagining things. Thanks for your help, Judy
