I captured this egret a couple of weeks ago at Viera Wetlands. Details: Canon EOS 40D, %00mm lens, 1.4 X lens extender, distance of 351 feet, 1/2000 shutter speed, F/7.1, exp. comp. -1/3, and ISO 400.

Hi James This is close and lots of good things going on. Image is sharp, good bg, well exposed and good settings.

Would rather have the wings fully up/down rather than bent, even in flight you don't want the bird looking away, best to have pressed the shutter a bit earlier to have the bird coming rather than going and softer light. Exposure wise you should be using manual for this capture, as the bird moves from different shades of bg your image will be changing but the bird is in the same light !! At times will be under exposed at others toast !!!

Cropping wise would go for less room top and bottom, with a moving bird gives more of sense of motion !!! Things should be picking up in your area, late Nov Dec should be excellent in Viera !!!

Hi JAMES - Turn on your overexposure blinkies and check your histogram - that said agree with everything AL said - It takes a lot of practise (at least IMHO) to know what you need to do exposure wise ON THE FLY for these type shots.
