I never forget 22nd of December in Holland. Sadly enough it was just a few hours like this, than global warming came by :(

Andrew,

I am a sucker for backlight images like this and I feel it works wonderfully. You did not crop any of the trees on the sides of the frame and did not include too much sky at top. DOF looks good to me.

I would try as an alternate, cropping to place the sun at an approximate ROT power point. Just a thought for an alternate perspective though I am quite happy with the results here.

I live in a cold climate, but I can't recall the last time I saw a scene like this! Good composition: the light certainly leads the eye into the trees, and the sunburst is a great addition. I am noticing a little burnout on the left edge that could be tamed in post-processing. Otherwise, it's a great image!

Andrew great shot, I like how everything is covered in snow/frost and the contrast of the blue background.

Cool in more ways than one! The back light is great. I might try to darken the sky on the left to match the apparent polarizer effect on the right.
