Nice composition; the bird is well exposed (female?). Loss of some detail in the whites; but white on white is hard to meter. Nice image. ;-)

Ah yes, a sign of things to come. Some have already been reported in our area...quite early, but no one is complaining :-) I wish the head angle was different - either more towards us just so the far eye would not be just a black spot, or less so it is completely hidden. All-in-all very nice!

White on white should not be harder ;).
Spot meter the snow and start at plus 2 full stops EV, the more overcast the more you can add another .3 in EV. Nikon starts at plus 1.3 EV, except for the D3 which I have found to be similar to Canon.
You are simply placing the white tonal value where it should be on the histogram.
