A Northern Gannet, on a cloudy day. Bonaventure Island, Gaspésie, Quebec in 2005. Really nice place and I met Christopher (Chris) Dodds there.

Fill in flash

Thank you in advance for your comments and help.

Hi Stephane, I like this image a lot. Very pristine. The birds head is at the right angle and well placed in the frame. The BG is well OOF clearly bringing out the bird's head. You did use fill in flash, but surprisingly the eye did not pick up the catchlight.

Great picture - I love the colours and markings of these birds. I think the reason there is no catchlight from the flash is that they have very forward facing eyes. Flying at you they look as though they are staring straight at through blue rimmed spectacles

Nice image of a beautiful bird. I wonder whether there would be a further improvement if you crop out some of the bottom portion of the photograph. I am a friend of Chris and I hope to go to Bonaventure Island with him this year.

One of my favorite species, they are just so good looking, you have captured the essence of that very well here:cool:

Great portrait, I like the pose and OOF gannets.
