I like the Yellowleg's alert pose and the perch it is standing on. The BG is quite busy though - but it does give a sense of the habitat you photographed it in.

The placement and pose of the subject is very good but the bright and busy backround hurts the image. Very often the key to a strong nature image is an uncluttered or muted backround.(sometimes not easy to get) Shooting digitally makes it easier to discern how hot the backrounds are and sometimes you can correct the angle your shooting at by just moving slightly to the left or right.

Wonderful calling pose and sharp detail, but I do find the busy background distracting.

I like this one and do not mind the BKGR. Wish that the bird or at least the head were angled a bit more towards you. Is the light halo under the rear belly on the ORIG? The open mouth is killer.

The "light halo" is on the original raw file. I believe it's the reflection on the water on the other side of the bird.

Thanks for the comments Artie and everyone !
