Red-breasted Nuthatch
Wayne County, PA

Canon EOS 40D
Canon 100-400 L IS
f8.0, 1/500 sec, manual exposure
Flash
Vertical crop from the horizontal.

Just sitting on my deck in mid afternoon watching some chickadee activity when this guy came by.

Still have to get a better handle on using flash in these situations. Comments, suggestions welcome.

Thanks
Ken

Hi Ken,

I like the idea but the FG over powers your subject. A good flash technique is the one you barely can see!

This is a tough situation.

I agree with Maxis about the FG. You can blur and use curves with a mask to smooth and tone it down. A bright OOF FG is always an image killer.
