I have not been out shooting much so it was nice to get out and spend some quality time with our visiting Least Grebes this morning.

40D, 500f/4 +1.4TC, 1/1600@ f/5.6, Manual, Evaluative Metered, Raw. ISO 800, Tripod, Cloned out some junk in the water along with some specular highlights on the beak, slight crop

Sweet !!

I knew from the LCD that this image would rock !
Looks like the wet shoes paid off big time. Well done.

I may try the Lacy method tomorrow!

Cheers,
Michael

Awesome picture. I have been there few times, and I impress that you got this image considering the birds normal position and the light direction.

Nice light and pose. The grebe is super sharp. I wish there was more room on the right side of the image

All-in-all a very high quality photograph. The only thing that bothers me a bit is the reflected eye being so close to the edge and also the clipped head in the reflection. The rest is just super!!

Gorgeous light and razor sharp detail. Lovely bg too. I wish for a tad more room at the bottom, but this is a beautiful image.

Too bad that the reflection is clipped (maybe you could apply some blur to the bottom of the image to fix the problem) but the sharpness, light and perspective of this image is amazing. The eye is SUPERB!
