I found this guy in breeding colors on the Anhinga Trail. Shot wuith Canon 10D @ F13, ISO 400 with 100-400 zoom lens @ 400mm.

Joanna I think that the composition here is too tight for my taste. You clipped part of the head so I think that a good solution is to crop room from the right and the top of the frame keeping the eye, beak and that great golden skin. The colors and light are very nice and the open beak a big bonus. Love the eye details but I think that another round of sharpenning would improve your result.

Hi Joanna,

I missed your post. You have the right idea in mind but you have to remember to leave some room all around for the bird to "breath" if you know what I mean.
The composition is too tight.

Because of the flat head angle, you really don't have to set your camera at f/13, f/8 is probably enough for this image. I can also advice you to hold your camera against your body (chest) for maximum support which will help your sharpness.
