Male wild Canary, the ancestor of the cage bird, on Deserta Grande island, Madeira. It was shortly after dawn and the whole side of this steep volcanic island was in shadow, giving lovely delicate shade light. The cool temperature made the birds fluff up into tiny coloured balls as they came in for their morning drink.

Tech stuff: Canon 10D @ ISO 400, Sigma 180mm macro, 1/320, f5.0.

Love the bird and perch. I might crop a little off the left side. Really like the background.

The background is very nice, and the fluffy bird cute indeed! Could also envision this as a vertical, but horizontal works well, too. He's certainly on top of things :-)

Hi John,

I like this composition a lot, however I think the image can be improved with a tighter crop. The image also needs some more sharpening. You did well with the clean BG.

I wouldn't change a thing. I like the bird smaller in the frame, just like you have it. I don't think I've ever seen a photo of a wild canary. Very cool.
