View Full Version : Blackpoll Warbler, female?

This bird was photographed in the Wakodahatchee Wetlands in early May. Identification from books can be very confusing with these 'little brown jobs' especially when they are female. Can you please give me your opinions.

I think you are correct on the species Melvin. I'll let others comment on whether or not it is a female or a young, hatching year bird of either sex.

BTW I really love this image! It would be worth re-doing the comp and cleaning up for Avian Wild and Free.

Hi,

This is an alternate( summer) plumage female Blackpoll Warbler. Young birds tend to be a very paly yellow below and greenish above with thicker streaking, differing from the fine crisp streaking of this bird. Nice pic..
