Least Grebe was spooked by something under water and took off like a bullet. Those eyes tell the story.

Hi Judy Lynn,
Perhaps it was the Loch Ness Monster - I guess you just never know where he will turn up next...:D:eek:
Great image!

Beautiful shot, nice timing. This birds are fun to watch... I only need a longer lens. I have some distant pics of the chicks that I may be posting later.

Hi Judy,

Love the behavior and water splash. I wish the head was more in focus. I can't wait to see these guys!

I hope it wasn't the alligator! Where is the little one? At that speed, it probably was propelled. I am waiting for more of these shots. Well done! How long do you hang out waiting for a shot?

Thanks for the comments Joanna as they are much appreciated. To answer your question we usually are there in the early morning and late afternoon for at least a couple of hours. They stay so well hidden that it is truly a challenge to be be to get a photogrph of them. Definetly worth the wait though and a real thrill to have the opportunity to get a glimpse of them once in awhile. Again many thanks.

The expression is priceless and I love the wake of water the bird is pushing in front as well as the splashed water behind. The side lighting created some shadowing on the left side of the bird, but it is not too dark. I would sharpen the head a bit. You've captured a really unique behavior!

I feel the focus is more in the slash behind the bird, but other than that I love this action shot! COngratulations!
