This worn adult Glaucous-winged Gull was chummed up with halibut guts in the Shelikof Strait, Katmai National Park, AK on my recent bear boat trip. (I caught 3 halibut and came home with 32 pounds of filets :).

Canon 400mm f/4 IS DO lens handheld with the EOS-1D MIII. ISO 800. Evaluative metering + 2 stops off the sky set manually: 1/1000 sec. at f/4.

Don't be shy; all comments welcome.

Great capture with top pose, head angle and dangling feet. The back of the head and nape look slightly hot to me though, but I could be wrong. Really nice work again Artie.

Artie the whites looks a little bit hot on my monitor. I like the composition and the red, dangling feet but the wing pose is not the best from my point of view.

Thanks Dean and others. I redid the image from scratch and noted that the color balance was way off too. (Everyone missed that.) I love the wing position. IAC, here is a much better re-post thanks to y'all.

Amazing how I learn something here on most every post :) :D :)

Love the repost Artie and the wing position is definitely unique. Not one that I have seen before. Great timing and you gotta love those feet too !!!

Artie, this gull is beautiful and you captured very nicely its beauty in flight, showing off its plumage( even if it's worn) and colors against the sky. Your technique for this shot is something I have to practice more. Your color correction really made a difference. Thanks for sharing.
