Create in May 2008 in Cape Coral, FL.

The background is a red dumpster. This is one of my favorite nests there and it looks like they were widening the road over it so I am guessing that the burrow will be gone once the babies fledge. This is one of the adults. Dumpster was less than 30 feet from the burrow. This nest is near the BMX park.

1/400 sec, f/8
Mode: Manual
Metering: Evaluative
ISO: 800
Flash exp comp: -1

Red eye corrected due to the flash.

Beautiful detail and lighting. Whats throwing me is the backround. I realise you didn't add the backround but since it doesn't appear natural
it seems to be overwhelming the bird somwhat. At least thats how my eye sees it...

The BG is different and for me that’s what adds to the image, i guess it comes back to personal preference.

I agree the BG is jarring and untypical and that is the point. These owls live in a subdivision, Cape Coral. The live in close poximity to humans and unfortunately road construction. Another problem I have with Burrowing Owl images as that after awhile they all look the same.

I made a bunch of images that day and the two I like, including this one are the ones very different from what you normally see.

A nice portrait, Robert. The background is certainly a-typical. It doesn't bother me. The whitish portions of the bg are a bit distracting.

Killer, the background really makes this image different and striking. Sure, it may be a dumpster but the color is striking and captures the interest.

Robert, I love this image. To me the lighter parts of the background give a spotlight and really set off the subject.

Such a stately pose.....in all his wonderful detail. I personally like the BG.....certainly compliments the bird and given I know where they live, I think it's quite fitting.

Actually, I like it Robert as presented. I like the funky ,unconventional background It makes your subject pop out...:D:cool:
