Hi everyone,
This was taken on Skomer Island last May. It was about twenty minutes before this cute little fellow could locate his burrow!! I cropped it to emphasize the beautiful colours in the BG.
40D 100-400 @ 400mm
ISO 400
AV F8 1/1600 sec
Look forward to your c & c's - thanks so much for looking!
Regards to all,
Nicki

What a cute capture and I love the pose. Not the conventional crop but I can see why you did it the way you did and I find it very dramatique and quite unique. I sure works for me. Love this image Niki.

I like the emphasis on the beautiful BG, but I'd like the bird looking into the empty space. Something like this. Good to see another ETL contributor posting on the 'big' board!

Wow Doug, how on earth did you do that!!!? Actually, another reason for cropping it with the bird looking out of the picture was to emphasize the fact that he seemed a little disorientated and confused at not being able to find his way. I know the feeling...
Judy Lynn, thank you for your kind words!

Nicki

Doug, your positioning really helped the image in my view...

This is really different very nice. The BG is fantastic and the bunch of sticks on the bill very good. Terrifice eye, BTW. I like your initial idea trying to reinfoece the sensation of confusion but Doug approach is more pleasant from an aesthetical point of view. The pano croping works really fine here. Very fine image

Panoramatic crop is really interesting and it is working for me. However Doug's suggesting is an excellent idea. I love it - background and sharpness is great!

I like the idea of the confused puffin; still I prefer the repost, because it is more pleasent for me.
I love the beak full of sticks!
Great BG and wonderful eye!

Love the repost and the crop works very well for me, not at first but OOB ideas sometimes need more time ;) Congratulations!

I like the original better, maybe because I like unconventional. The repost is pleasing, but just what everyone would do.
My vote for the defiance ;)

Both images are strong and pleasing Each has its own merit and appeal. One think I would do is add just a little to the bottom of either image. Big Congrats !!!

Cute pose holding the nesting material. I like Doug's crop much better. The colorful bg is lovely.
