High Island, Texas

D1X, 850MM, ISO 250, f9 @ 1/500, -1.0 EV, fill @ -1.3.

Friend Brian Small noted a fence post that this bird was using regularly so I attached this perch to the top of the post, set up and waited for hours.
The sun was a bit higher than I would have liked by the time the bird landed, but I was happy to see a vision realized.

Beautiful capture, soft BG and the branch leads your eye right to the main subject.

I hate it! Because its not mine :D. Super smooth BG, and you couldn't have paid the bird to stop in a better spot on the branch.

Nailed! Like the BG - detail - branch. It would have been nice to see a little more wing to break up the white breast but I would be very happy if it was my image. Congrats.

This is really awesome. Seeing all these fabulous shrike photos here is starting to get frustrating, the only time I had a good opportunity, the air was thick with smoke from the Yucatan fires a few years back.

Alan, I second kudos already noted. Of course the eye is almost always the thing, and on a shrike the black eye streak is as important. The head angle on the bird brings this out very nicely, and while the light is perhaps just a bit hot, it's not harsh, and the details in the slight shadow area on the bird's undersides are well expressed.
