View Full Version : Is this a Loggerhead Shrike?

Found this flying around my patio after screens were blown out by small tornado in June. I know technically it is not very good. Just grabbed my camera and snapped a few before it flew away. The lizard is as big as the bird. Thanks for looking, John Should read Loggerhead!

I think your ID is correct. Quite a big lizard for a bird this size.

Agree with Axel. Only other shrike we have is Northern and the Loggerhead has broader black face mask as shown here. Loggerhead is the smaller and more southerly of the two. Loggerheads are listed as Endangered in Canada and there's at least one captive breeding program for the species, in Ontario. Well done to photograph the species!
